AppIt worked alongside Colorado OIT to design and develop a mobile app that would serve Colorado residents in a safe, secure, and convenient way; the myColorado™ app. The Colorado Digital ID, enables state residents to create an electronic version of their Colorado driver license or state identification (ID) card and display it on their smartphone for proof of identification, age, and address within Colorado. The Colorado Digital ID is a secure, unique visual representation of what has traditionally been the legally accepted official physical format of a person’s identification.
Everyone knows the frustration that can occur while waiting in endless lines at government service locations, and the State of Colorado knew there had to be a better way. AppIt employed cutting-edge technology to create a digital driver’s license that is more secure and more up-to-date than a traditional paper-based model. The Digital ID can be renewed through the myColorado™ app with no waiting and no lines, freeing up and optimizing resources in physical government service locations for other tasks and needs. Vehicle registration can also be renewed and stored in the app, along with proof of insurance storage.
The myColorado™ app launched in 2019 and is now downloadable on the App Store and Google Play. It boasts over 1 million app users in less than 5 years and has garnered local and national media attention. Recently, it won the 2022 Apex Awards Tech Project of the Year for its myVaccine™ Record feature, which allows users to easily and securely display their COVID-19 vaccination proof on their phones.
Colorado Governor’s Office for Information Technology (OIT) integrates and coordinates technology solutions for the State of Colorado’s executive branch agencies so that they can fulfill their unique missions and provide essential services for Coloradans. Additionally, they manage the state's IT infrastructure, including the Colorado State Network used by local governments, and provide the tools, policies, standards and rules that state employees need to do their jobs.
