As one of AppIt’s more recent additions to the team, it’s safe to say we’re expecting big things from TJ Hovel in his new role as Sales Executive...and not just in his selling abilities. At 6’2” and 280 pounds, this life-long athlete, strong man participant, and strength and fitness coach has what he likes to call...presence.
"When I go on meetings with Amanda,” TJ says with a wry smile, “people often remark, ‘Oh, I see you brought your own body guard.’”
What TJ is actually doing in those meetings is developing customer relationships, determining if a prospect’s project is a good fit, and helping to shape the scope of their potential products from theory to application. Outside of sales meetings, he researches potential connections to viable prospects, explores potential leads, conducts discovery calls, and helps define the work for client engagements.
Representing the AppIt brand well is critical in this role—a responsibility that is not lost on TJ. “Not everyone gets to promote one of the foremost app development firms in the world. It’s kind of a big deal.”
Ironically, the Hovel Family roots run deep in one of the smallest towns in one of the most remote corners of the state. “Phillips County has two towns in it—Holyoke and Haxtun,” he says. “My parents, grandparents, great grandparents, and I all graduated from Haxtun High School. Before that, I’m pretty sure there wasn’t even a school to graduate from.”
After earning his degree, TJ’s natural instincts for business—along with his authentic, easygoing, small-town demeanor—helped him thrive in a variety of customer-facing roles including business owner, state government employee, physical therapist assistant, and strength coach.
TJ, his wife Samantha, and their young son make their home in the Denver area along with their two, not-so-large Papillion dogs. He remains committed to promoting the benefits of sports and fitness by having coached basketball for over a decade and counting, as well as providing strength training out of his garage gym.
