When working with Senior Project Manager, Mireya Herrera, you are likely to notice two traits in short order. First, she has seemingly boundless energy—as if being active as a person and being actively engaged with multiple projects with lots of moving parts is not just her natural, but preferred, state of being. This vibrancy is complemented nicely by the second trait, one that makes her ideally suited to solving business problems with technology: she rarely backs down from a challenge.
Like the time a friend challenged her to participate in a Spartan race,” Mireya recalls, “I hated running at the time, but I couldn’t leave that challenge unmet. So I trained hard and finished the race. I have five of them to my credit now! The obstacles aspect is not unlike how I work with development teams to find ways through or around challenges.”
Originally from Albuquerque, Mireya puts her degrees in international management and marketing and operations management to good use in the service of clients. She joined AppIt in 2022, and is responsible for overseeing projects from beginning to end, mostly from a technical perspective, including management of resources and contractors. She typically has several projects going at once, coordinating multiple teams of designers, developers, and client service personnel.
Prior to joining AppIt, Mireya spent five years with a software firm out of Santa Fe, New Mexico and co-owned another software company based in Colorado. After exiting her company, she connected with Amanda, who had need for an experienced team member to manage a large project. The two of them hit it off and she’s been a great fit for the company, benefiting clients and the AppIt team alike.
At the end of the day, Mireya believes she operates much like a consultant. Clients might have a concept in mind to help achieve a business goal, but no idea how to make it happen. “They often have a vision of what they want to build to solve a particular problem, but have no clue how to bring it to life in a practical sense,” she says. “I help guide them into the right solution in the context of their business goals. I like to see the awe in our clients when we deliver an amazing product.”
When she’s not working wonders for clients, Mireya engages in a variety of fitness activities including working out in her garage gym, a routine motivated in part by her other favorite pastime, exploring the local restaurant scene. “I’m a big foodie,” she says, “As long as it’s local.” Above all else, Mireya prioritizes spending time with her family. “I definitely like fitness and good food, but I love my family,” she says. “Family is extremely important to me, and we try to spend as much time together as possible.”
