Good news travels fast. So, when Keely Hoak learned from her friend Kayla Benson, a fellow book club member and AppIt employee, that a project manager position had become available at one of the foremost app development firms in the world, she leapt at the opportunity.
“I had been working as a product manager for a couple of local companies and learned about AppIt through our work together,” Keely says. “Being able to help people solve problems by building something from the ground up is really rewarding. I think it shows in our level of commitment to clients and to each other as a team.” Originally from upstate New York, Keely originally moved to Fort Collins for school. After earning her degree from Colorado State University, her love of the mountains and active Colorado lifestyle persuaded her to stay. Although, her path to a career in project management and customer service nearly took a twist right after college. “MTV’s The Real World, came to town,” she recalls, “and I almost made it onto the show. I got through four auditions, but ultimately I wasn’t chosen.”
MTV’s loss was certainly AppIt’s gain. In her debut as a Project Manager for the company, Keely has been a star, working directly with clients to bring their vision to life. She is the critical hub and conduit between the client, the designer, and the developer, ensuring specifications are being met, keeping a watchful eye out for bugs, and sticking to the script in terms of best practice. “Another big part of my job is making sure clients feel heard and understood, and that I am communicating often about the process and how it’s going. And, if the project does hit a snag, clients have someone they know they can trust to resolve the issue.”
Recently married, Keely and her husband make their home in the Denver area. Outside of work, she enjoys all manner of creative crafting, DIY projects, gardening, and curling up with a good thriller novel.
