When you grow up in a rural, small town in Louisiana, far from everyday conveniences and resources many people take for granted, you learn to figure stuff out and make things work. Perhaps it’s not a coincidence, then, that Jason Bordelon found his way to AppIt Ventures. For indeed, these fundamental skills—figuring stuff out and making things work—are essential for success in the world of custom software development.
As our Director of Engineering, Jason is responsible for ensuring that AppIt team members, contractors, and vendors adhere to industry standards in software engineering. That not only means adopting and implementing best practices, but also dedicating time to understanding what project managers have on their respective plates, evaluating what’s working well and where there are opportunities for improvement, identifying any gaps in the development process, and helping developers remedy any issues.
“I like detangling the intricacies of a project and getting the pieces that don't want to fit together or play nice to work as intended,” says Jason. “Sometimes, there is very little information to go on, and it’s my job to sort it out and find a solution.”
Jason graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in biological engineering, but his natural aptitude for problem solving and complex systems integration led him into the world of industrial controls and enterprise-level applications. It was during school that he met his eventual wife-to-be, Louise, a South African student studying abroad at LSU. To date, their adventure together includes a move to South Africa, pursuing an interest in app development, starting a family, and ultimately relocating back to the States where a certain Denver-based app developer eagerly added Jason to their world-class team. “Amanda is an amazing CEO,” he says. “Just ask anybody.”
Outside of work, Jason values quality time with his wife, their young son, and their two dogs. He is also a two-wheel enthusiast, spending much of his free time riding one of his several bikes on pavement, gravel roads, jump courses, or trails—pursuits which involve solving entirely different kinds of challenges. It’s a great way to unwind and balance the work/life equation. But make no mistake, Jason loves what he does.
“Complexity comes with the territory,” he says. “We solve client problems with technology and the engineering buck usually stops with me. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Jason is an engineer passionate about helping businesses with global footprints develop integrated solutions for their office and field workforces. He develops solutions for business problems by experiencing them firsthand, whether in the boardroom or at a remote industrial facility. On the weekends, you can find him mountain biking on the Front Range or hitting the bike park with his family.
